Go to the doctors and get it checked out NOW. I dont mean to scare you love but I had similar problems - periods every 6 months for a while and I ignored it. Then I had the spotting and pain - eventually the pain got worse and I collapsed one day in agony - I had cervical cancer !!! Go and get a smear done - please xxxxx

There can be lots of causes for this, the first that comes to mind is amenorrhea. This can be caused by changes in diet, rapid weight loss or gain, stress, hormonal levels, thyroid conditions, age, medications or emotional shock. THis is not that serious of an issues, but can be treated. Is is serious if you plan on having children
If it is found that you estrogen level is low then estrogen therapy is needed.
A lot of female athletes also get this, because their body weight gets preety low. These sports include;
Ballet
Track and Field
Swimming
Cycling
Gymnastics
all other intense and strenuous sports .
Also I don't think the blood you saw was brown, but may have been a darker shade of red, which happens if the blood is not oxygenated. I would see a doctor though for this.

You should definitely see an ob/gyn for a physical. Have you had your yearly exam since this started? There are many factors that could mess up your periods. If you have gained a lot of weight it can cause your period to be wacky. If you have lost weight or changed eating habits drastically it can mess up your period. If you are on a form of birth control that could do it also. There are also medical conditions which can cause this. You should definitely see a doctor to rule out anything serious.

You don't state your age, but I assume you're thinking it's not the "change of life".
Are you on any type of birth control that would stop the flow of your period?
If not, and you're under "change of life" age (say 45), please see your OB/GYN to have a PAP smear.This could be a result of whatever, if any, birth control you are on, or an onset of the "change" or it could be some problem with your cervical state of health, maybe endometriosis, or cancer, or something worse.....please go get checked.

I recently read that if you missed your period more than three times in a row and you're not pregnant, you should see your gynecologist ASAP. It could be something like fibroid or a benign cyst or it could be something serious. I don't mean to scare you, but it's important that you get yourself check out. If you don't have insurance go to a free clinic.

Plenty of reasons one I do know of for sure is that when I woman gets VERY overweight/obese or way Under weight she will stop having her period. You may want to look into one of these. A gyno though will definitely pin point that for you. It is important that you go see one ASAP!

Depends on what your periods were like before the last nine months, light/regular/irregular.
All I can really say though is go to your Doctor.
