Driver Travels:
north: 17.3 + (1.2 * cos (24.6))=18.4
West: 4.1 +(1.2*sin(24.6))=4.6
Total = sqrt (4.6^2+18.4^2)=18.9km

JD missed the direction of the x component of the 1.2 km leg.

You should subtract 0.5 instead of add 0.5 to the 4.1.
