6 Functions Of Proteins

Proteins do most of the work in a cell. They are responsible catalyzing (speeding up) reactions that would normally be very slow which allows the body to have quick responses to stimuli. Proteins are important for the structure of an organism as well. They allow cells to hold on to other cells to organize the body. Proteins can even be broken down for energy. They are used in the form of antibodies to detect disease and start the immune response (which also involves a lot of proteins). There is basically no cell function (and therefore almost no body function) that does not utilize proteins in some manner.
