Mountain ranges... by a huge number
According to wikipedia there are 167 mountain ranges (and that's counting the Alps as one and the Rockies as one). That's about 24 mountain ranges per continent if you take an average.
If you meant tectonic plates not continents then there are 14 major plates and 41 minor, which means there are still a lot more mountain ranges than tectonic plates.

There are exactly seven continents: Antarctica, Australia, North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
There are dozens of mountain ranges. The more familiar mountain ranges are Alps (central Europe), Appenines (Italy), Rocky Mountains (western North America), Himalaya Range (south central Asia), Pyrenees (separates Spain from France), Andes (western South America), Ural Mountains (separates Europe from Asia, partly), Appalachians (eastern North America), Great Dividing Range (eastern Australia), Carpathian Mountains (eastern Europe), etc. There are so many more.
And there are subdivisions of mountain ranges. For instance, the Applachians contain the Green Mountains (Vermont), White Mountains (New Hampshire), Catskills and Adirondacks (both New York, Berkshires (Massachusetts), etc.
