I have Norton Anti-Virus, but the laptop has been acting funny ever since a week ago when I remember watching many videos on Youtube. But I always watch videos on Youtube, and I heard that it's not possible to get a virus from Youtube, especially with a Norton Anti-Virus! What could this problem be?

Did this happen during your video spree? Media applications can work your CPU very hard. If your laptop didn't have good ventilation, it could have overheated. Have the laptop checked out by a certified technician. If it's under warranty, send it back for warranty service.

Check for spyware first, but YouTube should be free of that.

When ever unknown problems like this occur, carryout system restore. Restore the PC to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. It is easier and mostly your problems will be solved.. If you want to know an effective procedure for system restore please visit the following site.

So far all the suggestions are good ones. Spyware and viruses are common problems and yes, you can get them through YouTube. Oh, and download Avast antivirus from www.avast.com. Norton is garbage.

Another common issue with laptops is overheating. If your laptop is under warranty contact the manufacturer. If not I'd recommend removing the battery from your laptop and running it purely off the power cord to see if the problem continues. That is an easy way to determine if your battery is the culprit.

Spyware could slow down your laptop, and any good spyware program will clean it out (I use Defend Pro 5 in 1), but as far as shutting down, your computer could be overheating. I had that problem until I got a chill pad. A chill pad has some small fans that your laptop sits in and it plugs into a USB on your laptop. You can get them at Walmart or any computer store. Since I got mine, my laptop can stay on for hours on end and never overheats. By all means get the anti spyware, but consider the chill pad. It is worth it.

Did you recently install extra RAM memory?

I had a laptop with which I put an extra RAM card in the expansion slot. It started doing funny things, like shutting down completely. Found out that the extra RAM card had heated up so badly, it melted a small part of the motherboard circuit.

My first reaction is that it could be spyware. Although there are several great products on the market, try the free version of Adaware from Lavasoft. http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Besides your CPU, I would also look at is the amount of memory or RAM you have. Generally speaking, the more memory the faster your application will load. Crucial Memory Systems generally has the best bargains out there. http://www.crucial.com

Hey.. it could be a worm or a trojan from spyware or adware. Or it could just be that your laptop needs to be defragged (organizes the data-clusters on your hard drive). If it is a spyware problem, Stopzilla has a great software that catches and removes spyware and adware. It happened to my computer, and I had to install Stopzilla. Now, it's doing fine. You should install a firewall also, just to be safe from hackers - but a firewall is necessary only if you have sensitive info - like your personal information and credit card info, SSN, etc.

Sounds like spy ware has snuck past your Norton's...

I reccomend using an award-winning program called SpyBot: Search & Destroy.

You can download it free of charge (legally) at www.download.com

Good luck!
