Why are there so many people who hate gays?

I'm sick of it! There's nothing wrong with gays! Please explain either:
(A) Why you dislike gays
or
(B) Why you think so many people dislike them.
Thank you. Hopefully the word will get out and people will stop being such homophobes.

Oh, by the way, I am straight and have a girlfriend.

In most cases, it probably comes down to
1) Ignorance (whether religiously-based or not),
2) Lack of understanding and empathy towards others,
3) A way of dealing with one's own sexual insecurities, or
4) A way of dealing with one's insecurities about appearing weak.
