MT C is closest answer. Here is what happens. When the refrigerator leaks refrigerant the pressure inside the system drops. This drop in pressure will let the refrigerant boil at a lower temperature. Even though it gets colder the volume of cold air will not satisfy the thermostat to shut down. The result is frozen fresh food for now. eventually as the leak continues the box will seem normal then loose all cold. To check for a leak without any gages to check with you can visually check by removing the cover from the evaporator(cooling coils) If you have an even frost pattern all the way through the coils then you are not low on refrigerant and can change the thermostat. Hope this helps and is not confusing.

Where is your refrigerator located? If it's in an environment where the surrounding temperature is below freezing, the refrigerator cannot account for ADDING heat to regulate temperature. Most refrigerators can only take away heat in compensation for an environment that is room temperature. I only learned this because it's all explained on this web site: http://www.fridgeguardian.com/ I have this device for my extra refrigerator that is in my garage and it works like a charm! Good luck!

First of all, it's not low on freon. It's not like a central ac that holds lbs. A refrigerator holds oz's. of freon. When it is low it won't cool at all. The thermostat controlls the freezer only. The ref. side gets its cool via the evap. fan motor in the freezer. Many have a damper that you can control the amount of cold entering the ref. If it never shuts off, you'r thermostat is stuck closed and needs to be replaced.

I concur with MT C my first thought was either a bad thermostat or the refrigerant. Also it may be a bad fan motor, or a bad deforest timer. Look to spend between 150-300 to get this repaired depending on your location. I am located in the south.

Either the thermostat needs to be replaced or the refrigerant is low. You can kind of tell if its the refrigerant if there is severe build of ice in the freezer.

Try cleaning the coil. It is located either under or behind the unit. Use a vacuume or there is a special plastic-wire brush just for this job. When this gets dirty, it does tend to freeze food no matter the setting.

As the humidity in the house drops, the refridge and freezer work better. Turn the refridge from 3 to 1 for instance. Good luck

if you turned it to the lowest setting then you turned it colder. Check the recommended setting usually listed inside the fridge. some have numbers others have letters. Mine is letters and recommended setting is C If I turn it to A it is warmer and E is colder.
My in law's fridge is numbers and the recomended setting is 4 if is were on 1 it would be colder and 4 is warmer.
check the fridge, or call a repair guy and ask him.

If you have already turned it down, there is probably something messed up with the temperature control. I'd call a repairman.

Try cleaning the coils, fan, motor first. Before calling in a repairman.
