Poetry is quite simple. What do you really need? Learn the basics, meter, patterns, different techneics. There's lyric poems, epic, ballad, sonnets, All poetry is, is what you create in your mind. Research it out, and try your hand at a few poems, dosen't have to be long. Hauki's are easy...well they are short. Anyways, oh and it dosent have to ryhme!!! I don't know how to get that threw to people... good luck!
p.s allpoetry.com is a good site with lots of poetry. If you search around the site you might find some interesting things.

Here be my two cents worth;

1. I hope it is a poem that you can select
2. If not, well endure, as these are the 'readings" that require one to read say the answers given here by others.
3. If you can select a poem: you can select one that matches your interests, passions, hobbies, etc.
4. I suspect you may have to write and present something?

As you can see no easy answers if we do not know the situation.

perhaps a poem that comes from your culture or faith, you know use the style of such as you can but I have no idea if you are a westerner (cowboy) city dweller, listen to Hip Hop or Nashville.

there are poems that young men can read well, there are many, well they do not fall smoothly off ones lips,

perhaps your PC has audio media recording? Practice.

Go to YouTube.com, type in poems, poetry even a specific poem! Watch them do what they do!

be it def poetry, cowboy poetry, it is on YouTube.

Please take a look, if you think it might help.

Start writing gibberish and hope you sound like you know what youre talking about or you can plain and flat-out transform yourself into a person that loves poetry/writing by studying really hard about everything.
Hope that helped. I tried really hard so it should.

try to make it make sense and try to rhyme a lot... you could talk about something thats happened.. for example
i'm making this up right now

bad day

i woke up and fell out of bed
i tripped over a rock and hit my head
i went in the street, got hit by a car
got beat up by a really big guy at the bar
got knocked down
fell really hard on the ground
i just dont know wat to do
but i forgot about all my problems when i saw you!

wish the best of luck to ya
