It is not against the law but theaters have the right to deny you entry if you try to bring in outside food. Look at it this way, theater owners make as little at 10% of the ticket sales that come through the door. That doesn't come even close to paying the lease, maintenance, payroll, insurance and all the other costs of running a theater. So they make their money on the concession stand. That's why the prices are so high and why theaters today offer more than the basic candy, popcorn and soft drink that they offered years ago.

My suggestion is to either suck it up and buy at the concession stand and rationalize it by thinking that it was a $30 night out or eat before you get there! Besides $30 (or even $40.) for two people for about 2 hours of entertainment isn't all that bad. It will cost you a lot more for a concert or a play!

I don't think it is against the law, but make sure the theater doesnt' have a "no food or drinks" sign posted. I have taken small things like M&Ms or such, nothing large like a bag of popcorn.

it may be against the law of the theater but in some cinemas, they do allow food to be taken inside but not with those tin cans or bottled products, for security reasons.

Not against the law, just against the theater rules. They can legally kick you out. Be cool - if they don't sell BK Whoppers there, you'll probably stick out like a sore thumb if you sneak one in.

I don't think it is the law but I am sure they don't approve of it, that is why you have to put the snacks in your pocket or bag. I do buy a drink there but OMG why are the prices so outrageous. If they had decent prices then people would not have to sneak the snacks in lol
