Haha, I have always asked questions like this if I want to get into an argument with anyone. I think that we will never know because if nothing is there, nothing can capture the sound so there is no proof that it ever occurred. So, let's ask another question: How long will this question be asked until we find an answer?

Good question. Will we ever know the right answer? If we put a recording device in the woods, will it record any sound when the tree falls?
I think the answer is yes. The sound waves are present, even if there are no ears to receive and interpret them.

Her is a way you can find out, go to the forest and cut a tree down. OF course a tree falling would generate sound even if it has not hit the ground yet. Dont forget the sounds the roots make and even the leaves and stems on its way down. Go pick a blade of grass even though you cant hear it when you pick it, it still makes a sound.

I believe the answer is yes. regardless of wheather or not someone is there to whitness the fall or hear it fall the tree makes noise. Everything makes noise just because someone doesnt hear it, it doesn't mean it hit the hard earth and didn't make any sound at all.

Sound is there whether you're there to hear it or not. Thats a ridiculous question that has been asked for years. Why wouldn't it make sound just because no one is around to hear it. I'm sure there's a bug or animal around and their hearing works just fine.

When a tree falls there is certainly a sound. There is sound
even when no one is there to hear it. Common sense!

Ah, you cant know unless you are there. Even though logically when a large tree falls it makes some kind of sound. :]

Yes, it makes a sound. Otherwise the laws of physics would no longer apply and we could all fly around without wings.

Yes, it does. You don't hear it as loud because the trees around it muffle the sound.Either muffle or echo the sound.
