If the contribution is paid directly to the politician's campaign, no. However, there are many groups that are founded as a nonprofit that you can get a charitable contribution deduction for your contribution, and they in turn use the money to help a particular candidate's campaign (i.e. the swift boat veterans, etc. from the 2004 presidential campaign).
