If you mean bedding for the bottom of the cage, then care fresh is probably the best you can use.

If you mean a bed for them to sleep in, rats like anything they can get into, a clay pot, a piece of pipe, a kleenex box, pretty much anything.

The cheapest thing to use to make a house is old tissue boxes and other similar boxes(ie mobile phone, shoe boxes etc). You don't need to worry about cleaning them, just throw them out. I don't buy hammocks anymore either. I buy bath towels and hand towels from my local pound shop and use them. I just throw them away as well. I also use cheap tea towels for hammocks as well. You do have to be careful with them though as some are better quality then others. Ice cream tubs can be used for a house, cut out a door and file it down to make sure there are no sharp edges. You need to check it very regularly those as rats love chewing them to pieces. Another thing I use is the empty litter bag. My big cages have hanging baskets in them.
For the bedding on the bottom I use newspaper as a liner and then just put some shredded paper in. I use Bob Martins Recycled Cat litter for their litter tray as its the only stuff I've tried that doesn't affect my rats breathing.

Wicker baskets come in all shapes and sizes and can be collected from garage sells and thrift shops, for pennies, because your rats will chew and eventually destroy their bed/bedding.

Newspaper is a fine bedding but only as long as you can be guaranteed that the ink used is soy-based. If you use wood chips, use only aspen.

I use cloth bedding in the way of fleece, torn up bed sheets, pillow cases, and t-shirts. I just lay the cloth in the wicker basket and the ratties can make their bed any way they want to.

Rats also love hanging hammocks and hidey huts.

Most pet shops will sell bags of nesting material for rodents. It looks kind of like shredded tissues.

Don't make the bed for them, just put it in the part of the cage where they like to sleep and they will make their own nest.

Change the nesting material each time you clean the cage.

I made a large hammock for my rats! I got a large piece of material (strong) and used medium width rope to hang it to the roof of the cage... they loved it... I also put shredded
paper in their cage too and they used to pop that in the hammock!

I have some mice and chinchilla's. Both seam to prefer cotton fluff along with a bit of shredded paper. You should spread the fluff and paper evenly throughout the cage. The like to make their own beds. Whenever I clean the cage, if I move the area they have made for a bed, they will immidiatly move it back. Sometimes they will build tunnels or small structures, so be sure to give them plenty to work with!

like bedding? or beds? Whatever the case for any type of rodent it is basically the same... For my hamster I used newspaper, toilet paper (they like both to tear up and make their own nesting place) Maybe cardboard? not to hard cardboard either but they chew that up too :) I hope this helps
