Sometimes, but not in all songs - depends on the singer, the song & the choice of words.

i'm English and that i have lived in the U. S. for 1/2 my existence. besides, the question is subjective. some will say they're very diverse, others will say they're no longer. notwithstanding it actual relies upon on the accents you've a tendency to take heed to from each day. To an English individual who's used to listening to extremely some very diverse British accents and dialects, the american accent isn't all that unusual. For an American, on the different hand, a British accent will look very diverse because American accents are very diffused. Many individuals, because they're so unused to accents, have a not uncomplicated time information even a gentle British accent.

It depends entirely on the singer. You can tell Dido is English, but Petula Clark could be American. Gavin DeGraw could be either, but Jackson Brown is definitely a Yankee.

Elton John sounds English, and the Pretenders were undoubtedly Scots. Same Goes for Oasis, but the Wallflowers are linguistically ambiguous.

I can usually tell, but I confess when I first heard Dave matthews, I thought he was a Brit.

Many times I can, sometimes not so easily, when the singer has more of a neutral accent - Coldplay and Snow Patrol can be pretty neutral for instance.. It's easier to tell if someone is Irish I find.

Sometimes you can hear an accent and sometimes you cant
It depends on the singer. If you know that the singer or singers are British - you are gonna be listening for the accent.

Not really. Can you tell whether or not Mick Jagger is English or American? I couldn't if I only ever heard him sing...now, in interviews I have watched you can definitely tell.

I will say though, that you can usually tell that the band Pink Floyd is English. But, it is still difficult.

I USED to think I could tell, until I heard Robert Palmer speak in an interview. Ditto with Green Day.
