By "the Irish" (note the initial upper-case letter) are you referring to James Joyce, Samuel Beckett, O'Casey, Shaw or any of those fellows?
Please clarify.

Some are, some aren't, people think that they are stupid because of all the religion conflicts that seems to be such a problem in that country.
There was a famous American senator or spokes man, can't remember his name, who said that if you put all the Irish in Holland they would forget to fill up the dikes and the land will flood, and if you put the Dutch in Ireland they would make it into a rich and prosperous land.
However these days since Ireland has joined the EU it is one of the richest countries in the world Per-capita. So Ireland is doing very well. The economy isn't so rich, but the pay is one of the best in the world, So people change and situations change.

You can't generalise a whole nation, every single individual is different in every country, some are not the brightest, some are very intelligent, some are fat, some are thin so for you to say that the Irish are stupid is a pretty dim reflection on your intellect im afraid.

Ireland has a much better education than in England. Both my parents are Irish and moved back there from England 9 years ago. My little brother who lives there is now 18 and still in education. He is hoping to become a teacher. He would never have had the education he has if they had remained in England. We lived on a rough estate in North London, he would never have had the chances he has now if he had stayed here.
My uncle in Ireland is a professor in lung diseases and has taught at Harvard university in the U.S. I wouldnt say he was stupid.
My old man tells many paddy jokes and how stupid they are, but it is all told in jest (he is Irish after all).
In answer to your question, no I think the Irish have a great advantage with the eductation system they have there. If anything we are well behind them.

Only the really stupid ones. Others are pretty intelligent. The rest are just plain normal. I think you will find this is a universal rule of thumb.
