Sodium can make you retain water. Diet Coke has 30mg of Sodium, which is <1% of daily reccomended allowance. Other than that, there really isnt anything in it to make you gain weight.
Water is still better though.

Sodium isn't good for you and diet soda will not make you gain weight but it will prevent you from losing any just because there are no calories in the soda.

No. It's doesn't even have any sugar or carbohydrates in it. Diet soda doesn't have that much sodium in it. So it's ok. But that doesn't mean you should drink sodas like they're water. Drink sodas in moderation.

All kinds of soda makes you gain weight.
But sometimes people think that drinking Diet Coke is better than drinking just plain Coke. That's not true. Diet Coke--and other diet sodas--are just as bad if not worse that just plain Coke. This is because Diet Coke has man-made sugar in it. And man made sugar is worse than regular sugar because its not natural. So if you drink lots of diet drinks slowly but surely that man-made sugar will start making you sick. In the long run I've read that it can give you Alzheimer's.

It's diet soda, not "Negative calory" soda. So it'd still make you gain weight. Or at least a few calories.

it won't make you gain weight, and the sodium content is the same for all sodas.

it can but certainly not as much as regular soda, but also when my sister was pregnant, the doctors told me not to drink diet soda because of the "fake sugar" the asperteme. so youre best bet would be to drink regular soda, but only as a "treat" and the same for diet soda-dont drink it often because it is not good for your weight

of course anythig in excess is bad, and as far as the weight gain.... it does contain calories and sugar. Not as much as non diet, but still is not good for you. I suggest more water and juices : )

If your weight is so important that you would drink something as nasty as diet soda* to keep it down, just drink some water.
*diet soda being nasty is my opinion

It has no calories ( as you know) but the sodium and the fluid alone will cause water weight and swelling, so it's not fat, it's fluid retention
