I have. Many times. I have heard this from fellow blacks, whites and my own family. It does hurt! Just because we decide to not butcher the English language doesn't make us any less black. I was actually called out about this last year at my job (I'm 27 and I thought this was over!)...it makes me feel like I don't fit in anywhere. Like, white people look at me weird, and black people do too.
The best advice I can give is to try and ignore it. Whoever is giving you flack about it is ignorant. Don't change for anyone! Don't start incorporating slang into your vocabulary...you'll just look like everyone else and hate yourself for it.
Email me if you need! Good luck. :-)

Just ignore them. There are ignorant people in this wrld and there will always be. You just have to hold you head up high and don't let them bring you down. I'm pretty sure you have good frinds that understand that there is no such thing as white____ or black____. If they say that to you, then tell them that they are the reason black people have a bad name an a lot of people from other races(and some from our own), look down on us. And at least i'm not gonna be a stereotype or another statistic. And also tell them that black people are the most diverse group of people(fact) ad they have many different features.

This is just your token white man chiming in on this question. I only wanted to add that when I meet a black person who speaks proper English from a neighborhood where it is not common to do so, it means two things to me: (1) I don't have to work hard to understand what he or she is saying, so communication is much easier, and (2) this person must be courageous to not fall in line with his or her local culture.
I've also noticed that some black folks adjust how they speak depending on whether they're talking to whites or to other blacks. However, I don't take this as a lack of courage, I take it as being considerate of us white folks. :) At the same time, I don't dislike the "traditional" black way of speaking. I like how it sounds, even though I don't always understand the words. It's all good!
In any case, I'd like to see ALL of us stop giving each other crap over what amounts to nothing more than the maintenance of cultural "purity." People should be allowed to be whoever and whatever they as /individuals/ feel comfortable being, and everyone else should just accept them as the /individuals/ that they are. Culture is a wonderful thing, but it should /never/ be used as a hammer to beat individuals into any particular mold of behavior or appearance. Amen. *steps down off soapbox*

First of all what is a "white person's nose", how does one have a White attitude?. Since when do White people have a monopoly over facial features and speaking properly. I'm sorry but our society is so messed up, Black people are just as diverse as any other group of people and people (including us) need to stop putting us in a box.

people are retarded here.....i dont know why we have to seperate ourselves .. from everyone else... (the different ethnic groups) but there is a significant difference in the actions and personailties in the average white person and the average black person in the US... i dont understand why that is.
In Brazil .. (i'm part brazilian) .. everyone is the same.. all the Blacks.. all the Whites.. japanese.. the mixed.. the Germans.. all act the same.. talk the same.. dress the same.. and all are treated the same. there is also .. almost no racism in Brazil.
