Bravo. What courage to embrace so much truth.
The bible has killed more people than all other books combined.
Acceptance of it out of weakness notwithstanding.
Lets do the future of the world a favor and abandon this atrocity.
And if conservatives say that is censorship they are being hypocrites.

When radicals are in charge books get burned. I have a home library of approximately 7000 books on many subjects. They are a way to stay informed on all manner of things. Banning books solves nothing. Ideas will make their way into minds if they are most correct. Look at the Nazis, for example, they burned books and look were it got them. Ruined Europe and Germany.
I think Tom Sawyer is a great piece of American literature from one of the greatest writers in the English language. Rather than banning it from school why not use it as an opportunity to discuss how ideas have changed and why. Why not discuss the N word and explain why it was acceptable then but not today? Why not explain why people of color called themselves the N word in those days but not today? Why not explain how much simpler life was then and get the joy of the story without worrying about certain derrogatory words (once discussed as mentioned above).
If one looks at the Bible he finds sex and violence all over the place. Should it be banned? Let's not and discuss how the sex and violence are in the Bible to help us understand certain things.
Books are wonderful things and we should always cherish them for they can open the world to us. We don't even need a computer or electricity to enjoy them.

I do agree that way to much bloodshed has been caused by religion, but banning any sort of book is wrong. For one thing, it would only make people want to read it more! If anything, let's just get rid of all religions, period.

I get the irony of what you're saying. That said, I can't go away again without restating: ANY book banning is wrong. People can choose not to read something, and can choose that their children should not read something. But societies that burn books end up burning people.

Religion is a control tool used through the ages, do you really think it could be as simple as banning a book to stop the oppression?

What about My Pet Goat? I heard somewhere that evil is drawn to that book and a side effect of reading it is war mongering.
I say we start a petition to ban My Pet Goat and if that goes well why not shoot for the bible?
In all seriousness, no book should be banned. It is not the book, but the people who read it that are responsible for their actions.

How ridiculous.
A book has ideas and thoughts.
A person has the ability to do things, not a book.
A person may choose to do things in the name of a book or idea, but the book isn't the problem.
It's the person.
Any 5 year old knows this.

Probably one of the problems that you have with Christianity is that its followers are always trying to ban things. Just like you. I'm not a Christian either, but don't be ridiculous.

No we are losing enough liberties as is plus prohibition never works look at alcohol in the 1920's and the drug war today both failed to stop what they were meant to stop.

If you don't want your kid reading certain books, don't let them read those, but don't stop others from doing so. Just because people read some books and do stupid things because of what they read doesn't mean the books are bad. It means those people misinterpreted the meanings in those books.
