Is SQUARE ENIX remaking the game FF VII?

Question

I seem to recall hearing something about this, and was wondering if there was any truth behind it? I heard that SQUARE was remaking the game using today's graphics capabilities, but they aren't going to change the game much. The characters are still the same, too, so I hear. But is what I hear true?

As of Februaury 13th, no official plans for an enhanced remake of "Final Fantasy VII", particularly for the PS3. Rumours have been sparked ever since Square-Enix demonstrated the PS3 graphical capabilites during their "revised" clip of the FFVII opening video. However, unfortunately, Square has debunked reports that they have yet announced a remake of the title repeatly.

The June 2006 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly stated in their rumours section that the E3 video was indeed a preview of an upcoming revision of the classical game and EGM's rumour section has been praised from people for being quite accurate at times. I've read that they are considering it, but they want many talented people from Square to work on the project together yet their currently focusing on other projects.

It's already been cited a few imes by squareenix that the have no intention of remaking FF VII for an current get or next gen system. They created a few battle scenes on the PS3 engine to show what the new system was capable of but at E3 and other magazine interviews they have made it quite clear that FF VII remake will not be made. BUT this is square so never say never. But as of now dont count on it.

first of all, VII did not easily get remade. I through VI are growing to be remade for handhelds (and there are some playstation variations too). VIII and IX are not that previous. it is way too quickly to remake the video games.
