The Northeast has had virutaully no snow this winter (except for upstate New York, which got pummled with snow). Boston got a dusting, if anything at all....The snowfall seems concentrated in single areas- colorado, and upstate New york- But there is a drought iaccross the pond in the UK as well- Do meteorologists have an answer as to why there has been such an absense of snowfall in most of the country? Is it because of el Nino?

this winter is just part of the larger terrifying trend of global warming. remember snowstorms? yeah, i didn't like them either, but shoot, the lack of them is a definate call to arms for us to take global warming seriously.

The heavy areas of snowfall are seeing such snow because of what is called the "Lake Effect". The Great Lakes are by those areas that are being slammed. Water evaporated from those lakes seed the air with intense moisture, and with the extremely cold upper level atmospheric condititions, it snows like crazy down below.

It's probably the effects of El Nino. As I am typing, we're getting 9 inches of snow here in Chicago and the rest of the nieghboring Great Lakes area in the Mid-Western states. It's also below freezing cold. I myself prefer heavy snow and winter.
