I believe Grethound Bus Lines has an unlimited monthly package that would probably be the cheapest. Get off anywhere, stay as long as u want & get back on a bus to your next destination

Oh boy! You only have $1000 to travel the states in FOUR weeks? That's tight.

Well, the only suggestions I can make of places you would really want to see in the states that are monumental are (this of course is not taking into consideration your budget, cause either way you look at it, it's not much to do much, so you're going to have to pick & choose, but ...) NY NY, of course, Chicago IL, St. Louis MO, San Francisco CA, Seattle WA, Washinton DC ... just to name a few.

$1000, and you are going round trip from New York to LA? I hope that is one way, or that you have a car that gets about 75 mpg.
