I don't know if it will ever go away. In the last 3 years and 11 months ; ) Ive had 7 cigarettes, so I guess I can't, or shouldn't say I have quit. I'm like you, I usually crave a ciggy when I'm stressed/very upset.
The main reason for me to stay smoke-free is for the health benefits of a non-smoker. I have a 3 year old son and I know that I can die from loads of stuff but I don't want to tempt death, just like I wouldn't blow-dry my hair in the shower LOL No, but do you know what I mean?? Could sound crazy but that's my big motivation.
Oh, and Grandad said once you give yourself a label (ie, a smoker) it will stick with you for the rest of your life. So he would always say, "I'm a smoker... (which was always really funny seeing as he was an extremely religious man) ...but I've been clean for..." ...so many years (and it was 'so many' years because he stopped smoking about 5 years after he finished his duties WW2
So good luck ... hope the cravings DO eventually stop, for both your sake and mine

It wont go away while you still believe that there was a benefit to smoking nicotine, that it was a friend that relaxed helped and empowered you. In actual fact nicotine made you more anxious, robbed you of calm and clarity but the fact that you were in constant withdrawal made it seem otherwise when you smoked, like any other addict.
I recommend reading The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. Contrary to the above posters I have never, ever, wanted to smoke again since stopping after reading that and Ive been quit for 5 years now.

The cravings are always there it's just getting something else to replace those cravings like go for a walk or drink water, listen to music. Keep up the good job. I am sure you are proud of yourself and you should be. You are probably very nice t kiss now because the smokey taste is gone and I am sure you feel a lot better. Kudos to you.

The cravings have never gone away for me....and it has been almost eight years since I quit smoking.
Three years after I quit, and after several drinks, I had a cigarette...it was disgusting!!!! I still get a craving now and again, but can remember how gross that last one was and haven't had another since.
Just like any other addiction, your a recovering addict..and will always be recovering and not cured.

I quit cold turkey after 35 years, three and a half years ago, and still get craves. But they only last a few second and I will grab something to drink and it will pass. I know I will never smoke another cigarette again even though I love them

Some people have cravings for the rest of their lives, but don't give in. It's been 7 months for me and I crave them several times a day. I even dream about it.

The cravings don't go away...it gets a little easier most of the time, but you'll probably get some strong cravings every once in awhile for the rest of your life.
