Give tax breaks and cash incentives to anyone who can develop an inexpensive alternative to use in current vehicles, power plants, etc. and then create ways to be self reliant through solar, wind, geothermal power. Incorporate crops in the study to design a hybrid corn or plant that can be used to generate liquid fuel. I am also a huge advocate of hydrogen power. It has proven to be safe and hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. The output of a car using hydrogen, for example, is water pure clean water. Now it is expensive to get the hydrogen to use in power applications but if we give incentives and work our collective strengths we will once again prove that Americans can do anything we set out to do if it is for the good of mankind.

The people in much of the Middle East want to live in the 14th Century. Why not let them. The sooner the better. Each time you buy a tank of gas some guy named Mohammad thanks you and prepares to strap a bomb on himself to go after your sons and daughters.

Same thing Brazil did. They import Nothing. The bs about alternitive fuel gets headline about every 10 years and there is already SSSSSOOOOO many alternetive fuel. To many to count because this "STUDY has been going on, I know for 30 years now. Would it make sence to you if I told you the oil industry buys off these ideas and pay off government to keep it out? Maybe you wouldn't believe that seeing they only profit 59billon dollars a guarter. That kind of money has shut down alot of, already known alternetives and EVERY president including the all time wonder-boy Bill.

First and foremost, we need to go back to nuclear power. Other nations are using it without problems and the trouble at Three Mile Island in the 70s shouldn't deter us from using it. We also need to increase our hydro-electric power output but there are now options to do so without damming up rivers thus making even that source of power more eco-friendly. With cheaper and more plentiful electricity, we can reduce reliance on stove oil and gas in the winter. I believe we are on the verge of a technology revolution in the automobile as well. New engine designs are capable of greatly extending the mpg on gasoline. We also need to increase incentives for the big three auto makers to design and sell alternate vehicles for less. Not only will that reduce foreign oil use, but it might save one or more of those companies from going under.

One word

VEGETABLES!

"You know - Ethanol"

It's a viable and dependable source - they just don't want all the foreign oil producing interests to pull the financial rug out from under America because that would reveal just how badly we are OWNED by foreign oil producing investments!

Not to mention big oil lobbyists will never let Ethanol happen!

What were the profits last year for Exxon? Yeah!

America - Bought and paid for!

Everything is owned - even you "slave"!

I think ethanol is a great alternative. Here in the midwest, we have more corn than we know what to do with. Hybrid cars seem to be a good alternative as well. Car pooling and limiting the use of SUVs will help.
And better yet, how about we take some of the money we spend on war and use it to develop alternative fuel sources?

Ethanol, Nuclear, Wind, solar, hydrogen fuel cells, Clean Coal. And maybe even an oil tax to help pay for all the R&D needed for all these new types of energy.

permit's seem at he genuine difficulty. the genuine difficulty is political, oil = undesirable image voltaic means = stable coal = undesirable Windpower = stable nuclear = undesirable Hydrogen = stable ( perhaps ) Our society is outfitted around the so referred to as undesirable technologies and the recent technologies isn't broadly obtainable or decrease priced for many persons. At this factor we prefer all our contemporary resourses and could prefer them for the subsequent 50 - one hundred years as extra contemporary tech comes on line. One element of the controversy would shrink our contemporary resourses and attempt to stress conservation via cost and taxes. This hurts our financial equipment and actual delays destiny technologies. the different section needs to discover and develope our resourses whilst the destiny means sourses come as much as hurry and turns into decrease priced. Now,the massive Political Rub, the enviroment. contemporary tech = undesirable destiny tech = stable meaning no new nuclear means plant life, coal or oil fired plant life would be outfitted, yet we are residing in an electric powered society and hydrogen plant life are a piece of the destiny. No new oil exploration, progression or materials interior the USA,ensuing in ever larger fees. I say drill now. pass a regulation announcing US produced oil and oil products can not be bought exterior the US. build new refineries,we are importing subtle gas and paying the cost. detect international waters for materials of oil. build nuclear means plant life to furnish the means for electric powered autos and autos. you may no longer rush the destiny, that is going to likely be waiting on that is very own time table,no longer ours.
