I bought my iguana on February 1, 2007 and have been giving him collard greens, mustard greens, brocolli, mango, banana, and green beans. He has not ate or drank anything since I got him and he just lays in one spot in his cage opening and closing his eyes now and then. He is approximately 18 inches from nose to tip of tail. Any suggestions on how to get him to eat?

ok... nobody even answered your question on how to get him to eat. First and foremost check the temps. Make sure he is nice and toasty. Then you could try force feeding. Gently pull on his dewlap and put something in his mouth; see if he eats it. Most likely the reason is that he is too stressed. Be careful catching him; The chase can be stressfull as well.

You can also force feed him water through a needless syringe.

If he still not eating; take him to the vet and get a fecal done. Another reason for him not eating could be internal parasites.

Describe his cage setup. Does he have a basking bulb, a fluorescent uvb bulb, stuff to climb on and lots of decorations to feel secure?

Iguanas are arboreal, they get stressed when they cant get up high.

They also need a basking spot of 90-95 degrees, with the rest of the cage in the high 70s to mid 80s so the iguana can thermo regulate.

They also need a fluorescent uvb bulb so they can make vitamin D and absorb calcium. The bulb needs to put out at least 5 percent or higher uvb rays. I recommend Zoo Med's Reptisun 5.0 and 10.0 and exo terra's Repti-glo 5.0 and 8.0
The iguana needs to be able to get within 6 - 8 inches of the bulb in order to utilize the rays. Glass and plastic blocks the rays rendering the bulb useless so be sure it is sitting on screen.

Something very important that people dont know is that iguanas NEED humidity. 70-80 Percent

Your diet is ok EXCEPT the bananas, and broccoli and you need to add more too it. Bananas are high in phosphorous and should be a treat only. Broccoli is high in oxcalates which bind calcium and is ok as a rare treat only.
Him not eating tells me you either have the wrong setup or you bought him sick.

Excellent nutrition chart to follow and it tells you how much to feed. The only thing is IGNORE the nutrional info on the bugs and mice. Iguanas are STRICT vegetarians. Animal protiens cause renal failure in iguanas.

Iguanas need a 8.0 UV light and a heat source(no heat rocks) I use a Ceramic Heat Emitter. The basking temps should be 95-100 and normal temps of 75-85. You should give them warm baths everyday or every other day. They need a cage not a tank.

You should be feeding him 45% leafy greens like Collard, mustard, dandelion, escarole NO lettuces!

45% hard veggies like orange fleshed squashes(acorn,pumpkin,buttern... sweet potato, parsnips, bell peppers, asparagus, peas, green beans NO broccoli or cauliflower

45% fruit , mangos, papaya, figs, cantaloupe, cactus pear, strawberries, raspberries

NO ANIMAL PROTIEN! THAT MEANS NO BUGS, MEAT, CHEESE OR EGGS!

is the temperature in his cage adequate. avoid heating rocks, they tend to cause thermal burns. you should bring him to a vet who is expereinced wtih treating reptiles. (also hold of on giving bannanas regularly (poor Ca:P ratio)-save for occasional treats).
