I've got one, as does my mom, and approximately one third of the women in the world. It's not at all uncommon. All that it means is that your uterus, instead of leaning forwards over your bladder, leans backwards towards your spine. They used to think it could make it more difficult for you to get pregnant, but that's not the case for most women.

Usually it's something you are born with, although in some cases it can be caused by endometriosis or other ailments. Before your doctor "goes in and turns it around" you should ask her for a clear explanation of what she intends to do to you. I'm not aware of any nonsurgical way (they are quickie outpatient surgeries) to permanently correct a tipped uterus. In most cases correction is not necessary, although since you're in pain, it might help.

Retroverted Uterus is commonly referred to as a tipped uterus, this condition affects more than 20% of women worldwide. Generally associated with no health complications, a retroverted uterus can occasionally cause painful symptoms or signal an underlying health disorder.
