Absolutely not. If you really like Silence of the Lambs, then you will not see Hannibal Rising. Silence of the Lambs is an amazing novel and of which was made into an even better movie, thanks to Anthony Hopkins who made Lecter the ultimate smart and evil villain. Hopkins WAS Lecter. That movie is pitch-perfect. No sequel or prequel will EVER live up to the standard the Silence of the Lambs set up.
Then, Thomas Harris (author of Silence of the Lambs) capitalizes on Hannibal Lecter by writing Hannibal and Hannibal Rising, 2 of the worst book ever written. Why were they bad? Thomas Harris wrote them for the wrong reasons...to make money off of a movie sequel/prequel. He didn't write them because he had a good story to take the Hannibal character.
Just watch Silence of the Lambs again. It's leaps and bounds better than 99% of movies out today.

I already did, and if you want my 2 cents, save your money. The entire unfolding of Lecter's traumatic past is turned out in the first 5 minutes and the rest of the film is a hunt-em-down revenge flick, ala KILL BILL. A complete waste of film. No interesting plot twists or edge of your seat moments, and the shoddy 5 minute excuse for a back story is all too obvious and, overall, without substance. I really can't stress how poorly thought out this film was. Just a lame attempt to capitalise on the franchise the name HANNIBAL has become.

Not unless someone ties me up, gags me with popcorn, and straps me to the theater seats.

I've already seen it yesterday! I don't want to tell you more except one thing - it's worth going. I liked it, but can't guarantee you would.
