First off the only way it will be sucessful and remain that way is you have to WANT to quit. I used the patch and it worked great for me. I also had smoked 30 odd some years and enjoyed it. I decided enough was enough and I got the patch. The first week is the hardest, and it wasn't I wanted a cigarette cause I craved it, I wanted it because of the habit. Didn't think I could do my hair, or talk on the phone, or drive a car and etc. without the cig. Well I made it and so can you. Do NOT rush the patches, go thru all the steps and don't rush going off of them. I was one month on the 21's one month on the 14mgs and two weeks on the 7 mg. That was 17 years ago and I have not had a cig since or even want one. good luck to you..

I wish there was an easy way. I just quit after smoking for, well, not 40 years, but almost that long. I did it cold turkey. It's easy to quit, I've done it lots of times, hardy har har. Hopefully I will be successful this time. I don't think nicotine patches help me because I'm trying to get over being addicted to nicotine. That part is easy, the withdrawal pains only last for a day or so. It's the psychological addiction that is hard to get off your back.
Here's one thing I can recommend as benchmarks: 3 3 3 and 3.
In other words, if you can quit for 3 days, you have achieved a tremedous thing and are making great progress. Then if you can quit for 3 weeks, you're practically there. Next milestone - 3 months - and lastly, 3 years. Yeah, 3 years. It takes that long.

There is no easy way. I smoked for 10 years trying to quit the last 5 of them. It took getting pregnant for me to quit. I don't want to start back up nor do I plan to but even being 6 months smoke free, i am starting to get cravings pretty bad. I am just hoping I have enough will power to keep it up. It's not like I am in the easiest situation either. The babies father is in Iraq, i am 2200 miles from home and all my friends are in Iraq. I have been alone my whole pregnancy with nothing to do but stress. All you have to remember is what ever method you pick you just have to stick with it. Just keep telling yourself how much better off you'll be and after a while the smell will probably make you nauseous anyways. Well Good luck and I hope you manage to quit.

You have got to be joking. "Cold Turkey" is the only way, but it's not easy. Nicotine patches seem to help some people, but mostly it takes determination. You may have to stay away from other smokers and smoking environments for awhile. Try quitting with a friend that smokes and give each other support. The American Cancer Society has tips on quitting and so does the Phillip Morris website. Good luck.

There isn't any easy way. That's why so many people don't quit. If you've been smoking that long, you should try one of the alternative nicotine delivery methods (the patch, or Nicorette gum). At least you will give your lungs a break, and possibly then you can gradually cut down on the amount of nicotine you're taking in.

It's not easy - no matter what method you use - but the longer you don't smoke - the easier it gets.
I quit and have been smoke free after 30 years of smoking...
Nine months, two weeks, four days, 9 hours, 45 minutes and 24 seconds. 8802 cigarettes not smoked, saving $2,015.70. Life saved: 4 weeks, 2 days, 13 hours, 30 minutes.

I've tried multiple times and failed miserably. I've tried the patch, the gum, the meds, the mints, blah blah blah. I've heard the shot works fairly well, but it's over $300 for it which is money I don't have in one given moment. I hear there is a new med coming out that seems promising but it starts with a "c" and I can't for the life of me remember what it is.
