Five million. And I would use it to convince my county/state to build a hydro electric dam, in the county I live in. So I could also live off the power from the dam. I think I would also open a bio diesel plant.

Well, Deutsch Mark is no longer used as currency in Germany, as most of Europe, the Euro is the currency now, so you'll have to half that amount: EUR 745 360 How long it will last you depends on your standard of living and where you live, big cities obviously are more expensive most of the time, most likely there will be inflation at some point so money will lose value as well, or rents may go up. If you are planning to buy something, which I don't think you can unless you are 18, that would bring you down to at least EUR 645 360. If you spend about EUR100 each week for the next 60 years, though of course I hope you live a long healthy life, that would be about EUR 288 000, EDIT, oops, misread decimal point, ok so that would leave you with EUR 357 360, which is a lot of money but I doubt you will be able to live like that, groceries can be expensive and you'll have bills and stuff to pay. It is obviously a lot of money but speaking from experience, people tend to underestimate how much things may cost and potential expenditures. I'd think if I did nothing (no job/degree) I would probably be bored and spent more money so it wouldn't last as long as it should!

That is an intensely personal question. I think human nature say that there isn't such a thing as too much money.

You have to consider age, health, taste when thinking about how many chips to stack.
I'm middle aged and think that I Could live nicely off of $ 250,000 a year. After taxes I should be able to live nicely on $ 2,900/week. That's enough to have a nice house, car payment and a couple of coins in my pocket. So I think $ 10 Million will nicely last for 40 years.

Eventually I would like a nice house on an acre of land, a new car and a vintage car. I would help support my children, family and church.

I suppose that would greatly depend on my life span and the relative need of money during that life.

I could live very simply in an inexpensive area for some 50 years on less than 250,000, but then that would really only afford small indulgences and no spouse or children.

I suppose were I to live in poverty the money would stretch a great deal further, but such a life is not desirable.

I suppose a weekly amount required to live comfortably is easier to consider.

$200 a week for basic living expenses, including rent/ house upkeep as well as material items needed, clothing and furniture.

$80 weekly for food, as long as I didn't eat out regularly.

$100 as build up/ saving money for any medical needs etc.

total per week, using the highest amount listed- $380

per 52 week year- $19,760 (I believe this is right under or around the poverty line for a family of three or four)

for 50 years, no inflation used- $988, 000 cost of living. Inflation considered, as well as increasing medical expenses as I age, and entertainment, transportation, and travel costs, would put that amount around the $250,000 mark I mentioned before.

You don't need any money to survive for the rest of your life. This, of course, assumes that you are in UK where British Government will bend backwards to dish out money for anything!!

Wastage is rife in the UK and you can get free housing, and living allowance to survive. You also get support from the opposition who will guarantee you a decent income in your retirement.

In short, enjoy your life now so that you are entitled to all the government handouts.

I have been unemployed for the past 15 years and I am not suffering. My life is the best you can hope for.

Good luck.

If this is a serious question i would say you will need about £3,000,000/ To buy a nice house in the UK now you will need £1,000,000. The interest off the rest would allow you to live well with possibly two servants, nice car, two hols a year and a fairly good life style.

For me personally? Probably many, many millions of dollars. I like to live VERY comfortably, and am a big fan of shopping.

I would use the money for basing living necessities, extra luxuries (such as shopping) and also I want to be able to donate and give back to the community.

figure out how much you need per year to live comfortably, then that's what your interest should be...

so if you could live comfortably on $100k/yr, then you'll need about 2 million if you were to put that money into a 5% APY savings acct...

you'd just sit back and collect the interest... don't forget interest rates change as does the cost of living...

good luck!!

I'd like to have $100,000 a year (today's dollars) to be totally comfortable (though I could definitly spend more!). I'd go out to eat for every meal, write books/articles, be a member at a swanky gym where I'd take all sorts of classes, and travel.
