Could be something as simple as a bad connection up to a bad oil pump. Check your fluid level then check connections, usually a ground will cause gages to go koko.

I'm a girl so what do I know about cars? I had this happen and contiuned to drive the car and completely ran the engine dry. Needed a new engine. Goodbye little red convertable. My advice is to stop, call a tow truck and get it to a car repair shop so you don't have the trouble I did.

You probably have an oil sending unit that is bad.
