Most of the treatment I have seen on the web suggests just taking pain meds. That it'll clear when it's ready. But I could find nothing on the condition as it relates to pregnancy. I know the two don't go together. Fairly sure this is leftover from a bad chest cold. But worried about how this might complicate things being that I am fairly far along.
For instance, one thing I know is out because of my pregnancy is ibuprofen. One of the pain meds suggested to treat the pleurisy.
What would other mothers, doctors or nurses recommend?

quick anatomy lesson: pleurisy a.k.a. pleuritis (inflammation of both the visceral and parietal pleura.) the pleura is a double folded membrane that lines the thoracic cavity, with the parietal pleural being the side closest to the internal organs. The pleurae are moisten with a serous secretion the reduces friction during respiratory movements of the lungs. When these two membranes become inflammed, due to pleurisy, and rub together during respiration (partiulary inspiriation) you expirience a severe "knife-like" pain. The pleural rub can be heard during auscultation.(process of listening to sounds within the body, usually to sounds of the thoracic or abdominal viscera, to detect some abnormal condition, or to detect FETAL HEART SOUND. i did some research in my med books here at home but... i'm taking time off at the office for my pregnancy so i do not have my physician desk reference book handy to look up meds for pregnant women so i suggest you should talk to your doc immediatly and see if there are any meds for pregnancy. sorry, i just figured you would like to know exactly what the condition is!

ALSO- IF YOU CAN TOLERATE FRESHORANGES/JUICE. THE ACID WILL HELP BURN AWAY THE PHLEM ON THE INING OF THE THROAT. AVIOD DAIRY PRODUCTS (MILK,ICE CREAM- FOR THE LEAVE A FILM/MUCOSA ON THE THROAT- THATS WHY DOCS TELL YOU NO DAIRY WHEN YOUR SICK AT LEAST PEDIS DO FOR MY KIDS ANYHOW). WITH THIS CRAZY WEATHER TODAYS- IT'S MOST LIKELY APOST NASAL DRIP - I HAD BRONCHITIS WHEN PREGGO WITH BABY #2 AND MY DOC LET ME TAKE ROBIUSIN COUGH SUPPRESSANT. CHECK WITH YOUR DOC/MID WIFE/

I don't have your answer, J, but hope you'll find it!

I have a personal story...I had this when I was three months old, and had surgery to take liquid ~ a lot of it ~ out of my lungs. All went well, thankfully, and I am here, now, well, healthy and happy ~ very happy!! ;)

Hope you'll be well soon, dear!!

Take very good care of yourself, please!

Be well, you two! MUCH love going your way! :) :)
