I was just wondering if I could lay salt down before it snows, so I don't have to shovel as much. Does anyone know if this is effective?

Only for the first inch than it will get covered and be useless.Best thing to do is stay right on top of it.Every couple of inches go clean it up.It only get heavier if you don't.Good Luck!

Yes it will, except that shovelling the snow that may remain will remove whatever salt was left.
Also, the rock salt can be kicked out of the way, and be located in a less than ideal pattern.
If it rains just a bit before it snows, the salt would be washed off.

It will but it will basically be a waste of salt. Its good to put salt after it snows and you shovel.

Yes but you should really wait until it's done snowing to get the best results.
