Okay, I have read this question all over the place, and responses makes me laugh because honestly it all depends on you.
I would suggest a teacher recommendation based on your ability and strength. I don't believe it has to do anything with age, because I got my first pair at six years old.
Just make sure that you're physically ready for it. Age is not a factor and neither is waiting until your bones fully develop, because they wont until you're in your 20's.
Some people may say starting at a young age is bad, yet I did and my feet don't happen to be deformed in any way what-so-ever.
Everyone is different.

Well most girls star dancing on pointe at about 10 or 11 years of age, because thats when their ankles are fully developed, but it also depends on how long you have been dancing and how strong you are. I am 16 and I have not started point yet because my right ankle is still weak from injurys that I got when I was like 9 and 10.

As some have said... it doesn't matter what age you are. Just because a person may be 25 years old doesn't mean they are automatically going to be on pointe. I started ballet at age 25 and just got my pointe shoes at age 30! So it depends on your ankle, foot, and arch strength, and it depends on your confidence with your balance in turns and movement across the floor. If you are tipping and falling all over the place en releve with just your ballet slippers, well, it will be worse en pointe. Your dance teacher will be looking for these things and will be able to let you know if you are ready. Good luck!

It depends on when the dance teacher thinks the student is ready, and many dance teachers do wait until your feet are pretty much done growing. I'd say that the average for regular studios is 13 or so, while professional studios often start girls en pointe at age 9 or 10. I happened to start when I was 15.

You have to be older than 12-13 years of age to start pointe. Like you said, your feet aren't developed before this age. Putting you on Pointe before they are fully developed can be dangerous.

Well, usually girls shouldn't get them until they are 12 years or older. But age isn't everything. The dance teacher is the one who lets the dancer know when its time to go en pointe. The dancer has to have good ankle strength, balance, turnout....along with many other things. So just going by age isn't enough.

Age truly isn't a factor. I got my first pair of pointe shoes at age 10. It's all about having strong ankles and legs.

Everyone is different--and it depends on the strength of your ankles. Reputable teachers I have known usually say around twelve years old. It's good for students to do exercises (especially releve' ) to get ready.
