If you look at the craziness in the stores just now and the advertising going on then you have to say it's now all about the money. It's nice to get gifts and affirmations of love but it's a shame when you have to wait for a designated day to either receive them or give them.

it's certainly for the "almighty dollar"
in the past it may have been for celebrating love but nowadays even in countries in which valentine's is not a holiday (or something like) that valentine's is over promoted and all kind of publicity about it .just for some stores want to win some more money

it isn't consumerized unless you let it be that way. Hubby and I have just as much fun cooking dinner together than a romantic night out at a restaurant. More fun to do it together at home even because you can fool around and be silly while making dinner and not worry about anyone thinking you're stupid.

I think people have realized that it's become too commercialized, so now they tend to see it more as a day to set aside for loved ones rather than spending money and jump through hoops. As long as it's about love and not hate -- it's all good.

It has gotten way too commercialized. You can have a romantic evening at home without spending a lot. (Get a babysitter if you have kids)

depends on how you look at it. if u look at it as a day to celebrate those in your life..
can be your father, daughter, or son . just depends on you and your outlook.
it doesnt have to be a boyfriend or girlfirend
Personally, I have started to look at it as a day to celebrate *me*
