It's not about being better. What do you prefer.? It's a creative process.. We all don't like the same thing.. Personally I don't play the music you mentioned above. I prefer jazz and funk.. but is my music better? No.. It's what I prefer. Enjoy your music!

AFI isn't new, they've been around for a decade and a half. That's 15 f*cking years of hard work.

They're not emo either. Don't go labeling sh*t if you haven't heard their entire catalogue.

Their earlier albums and EP's were pure quality hardcore/punk.
Obviously, those who said crap about them here, haven't heard of anything by AFI besides the singles.

And none of those bands I would consider "emo". Emo started in the 80's and pretty much died in the 90's. You don't hear true emo music anymore. Many bands these days are INCORRECTLY labelled as emo, when they're not.

The Cure, for example. I swear I'd throw a f*cking shoe at someone who calls them an emo band.

And yes, those bands are great. Very influential and punk wouldn't be the same without them. But I have to say, Sid Vicious can't play bass for sh*t.

AFI was formed in the early 90's, but they're just starting to hit mainstream lately.

Panic! At The Disco is kind of crappy. They're mainly famous for being famous.

My Chemical Romance has been around a while, too.

And nothing's wrong with being a new band. At some point or another, The Ramones were a new band. So were the Sex Pistols. These bands haven't been around since the dawn of time.

K, Panic at the disco sucks. But I like a bit of the new and the old. I love the Ramones, and I love AFI. I love the Sex Pistols, and I love MCR. I like 'em both.

She's crazy! How can you even compare them?!? Although AFI used to be good, unfortunately they decided to go the way of Green Day and just follow the fads.

What about the Misfits? They were great! No one can touch the Ramones though!

I do have to say that emo wasnt always this bad. When it first started it was an underground style of music and wasnt all whiny the way it is now.

"New emo crap" wtf. AFI "new emo crap" You need to be schooled in AFI....you know nothing. AFI was a hardcore punk band that has been around for 15 years. I want you to tell me how many albums YOU think they have. New my a**. As far as Panic! at the Disco....I'll agree. I like MCR.

'new emo crap'?
AFI?
lol.
afi arn't emo. and they've been around for 15 years so they're hardly 'new'.
i liked AFI's older music. which was more punk than 'emo'.
and despite the fact that i also love mychem, sex pistols and ramones are amazing.

but there's no contest if AFI are involved. but they're not emo. so I'd say punk.

First off, you really can't compare such drastically different types of music-it's like comparing country and rap.
Old punk such as Dead Kennedy's, Ramones, and the Sex Pistols were unique, powerful, and groundbreaking. We are still listening to, and enjoying their music thirty years later. Their music was not bought online-you had to find a record store slummy or cool enough to even have punk. Punk music had meaning-politics, environment, racism, various abuses, and equality. However-punk died in the late eighties/early nineties arguably. That has left the door open to other types of music to evolve from a post punk scene.
Emo is not part of that evolution. Emo is part of evolution of mainstream pop. Pop isn't bad-it's just for the people who like it. My Chemical Romance is a continuation of the Spice Girls and Britney Spears. they wear dark clothes and make up, but they are not a rock band. Emo bands are dark pop bands with nothing to say-they are more concerned with image and fluff. Just listen to emo songs and the stations they are on.
A more serious comparison could be punk vs. hardcore or punk vs. Darkwave, but the Dead Kennedys vs AFI is like SUB HUM ANS vs. Kelly Clarkson.
If you like emo-great-just don't pretend it's something it's not.

I agree with your friend. But the old ones are still good, but new ones are better. Those are awesome bands. But Panic! said so themselves that they're not emo. You should add Fall Out Boy and Kill Hannah to your friend's list.

Give me your friend's name, address, and description and I'll personally take a cricket bat to his/her head. The wanna-be wankers that make up AFI, Panic at the Disco and MCR are not fit to wipe the collective @$$es of the Kennedys, the Ramones, and the Pistols. Why am I suddenly hearing Jello Biafra screaming "Nazi Punks F**K OFF!"?!?!!
