We should never give children money to spend. We are not ATM's we are parents and our role in this situation should be to teach the children the value of money and what it takes to earn that 2 or 3 dollars for a soda. If the school work and grades are acceptable then you should allow her/him the opportunity to earn spending money. There are many different ways that 12 to 16 year olds can do this. And along this same line I also believe that things like cd's and video games should not be bought by parents but rather with the money that the children earn. As parents we are also responsible for monitoring the spending of the children and teach them how to take care of their money. We have gotten way to soft on children and I am no exception to this rule but I have seen the negative impact that it is having on my 12 year old son. He seems to think that money grows on trees and we should get him whatever he wants. Well now he is having to earn the extra money for the things that he wants and has turned into a tight wad....LOL. I believe in the long run this will serve him well in life.

God, I hate it when I hear about spoilt kids on Yahoo Answers, giving her 5 pound a week is enough, I don't care about you giving her more, but she shouldn't complain nor should she ask for me. I am 14 right now, get no pocket money, also I do a lot of work around the house and only get like 40 pound each for christmas and birthday, even less. I don't complain. 5 pound is enough, if you want to give more you can but don't let there begging and complaining influence you. Also don't bring them up to be spoilt, it is not a healthy lifestyle.

I would give her a weekly allowance which she EARNS by doing chores around the house.

Possible chores should include: setting the table, clearing the table, cleaning the kitchen, scrubbing bathrooms, weeding the garden, shoveling snow, taking out the trash, cooking dinner, etc.

Do not just GIVE her money. Make sure she understands the value of a dollar by making her EARN it. I think that $25 is plenty for a 15 year old... and based on minimum wage that translates to nearly 5 hours of housework for you! Bonus!

You shouldn't GIVE her EXTRA money. She should EARN money. Either from doing chores at your house, babysitting for other parents, shovelling snow for neighbors, washing cars, etc. This girl will never get along in the real world if money is given to her with her doing nothing to earn it. EARN is the key.
But in terms of allowance, I think 10 dollars is good. If she earns it. Pay can be docked if she slacks and raised if she goes above and beyond the call of duty. Tell her that.

first of all is she doing any chores to earn this money??? If not I would give her chores to do each day to earn it... Then at the end of the week (Friday) you can give her her allowance... That is how we did it when I was a kid... but no chores no alowance.. and make her do ALL of them not just a few... You can decide what you want her to do.... When I was that age, I had to do dishes after dinner, vacuum, take out the trash and then make sure my homework was done... and put my laundry away if there was any everyday after school... then on the weekends I did that plus... I had to clean my room (dust, organize, wash my bedding make my bed with clean sheets, vacuum, and laundry..) And knowing all of that I can tell you that my weekly allowance was 25 dollars.. if I got into trouble (back talk, refused to do any one of my chores, got bad grade on a test, or didn't coem home when told to..) there was 5 dollars taken off each time.... until there was nothing left.. Then on Fridays, I got my allowance, and when it was gone, I was not gonna get any more until the next "payday".... But that didn't mean I spend mine and then have my mom and dad take me out shopping and buying me lunch everyday.... That wasn't ginna happen.. If there was something I needed... They would get it but other than that,, my money was for my wants.... So if I wanted something I had to save for it....

Just give her something to do to make her earn it, give her a sense of responsibility.. and don't give in if she won't keep her end of the deal....

Didn't you ask a ? on allowance already. I think if you want you should give her the $ in advance, but still only around $30-40 every two weeks.

give her $25 on Sunday to spend/ save until the next Sunday.

First-- it teaches her to manage money which she will need to know how to do in the future

Second-- I'm about her age and dont even need $25

Third-- if she wants more she will either have to earn it by doing alot of work around the house or save

If she wants money so she can act like an adult, she needs to be treated by an adult

I'd give her enough to cover the week. Just a few dollars for each day to get a snack and a drink. I remember I used my mom's money to buy cigarettes though.

I've always heard that a weekly allowance should be one dollar for every year old they are so $14 sounds reasonable but no more than $20.

at my school we buy ice cream, go to buy drinks and snacks, buy stuff from the school store, or we just spend our time hanging out. most people need at least $2.50, but the most is $5. i would get about $5 everey couple of days, but i'm in middle school so your kid would need more. my sister goes to high school and most kids there hangout at sandwich shops or 7-eleven. so she might need $10 everyday or something. i know it seems like a lot but food isn't cheap.
