I saw an episode of "Alias" followed by "Buffy the Vampire Killer" and some cop show that show women beating up men. I wonder how delusional they are making girls. It could lead to a false sense of security.

It doesn't really matter how well trained somebody is in self defense, you normally can't take on somebody a whole lot bigger than yourself, that's why we have weight classes in basically every competitive martial art sport. And normally women are either smaller or have a significantly reduced amount of muscle mass compared to a male.
Wasn't it Andy Kauffman who (a regular/average sized comedian) who never lost a wrestling match against a women? Any woman? And some of those women were big and they still couldn't do anything against an out of shape comedian.

To many it would indeed be a dangerous way of thinking. They might pick a fight they couldn't finish. However, you're overlooking the other part of the reality here. There ARE a percentage of women that can beat up men, but what exactly is that percentage? Or better asked, "what percentage of women can beat up what percentage of men?" Even a man's belief that a modern woman could beat him up would certainly alter his behavior, don't you think?

whilst i am all for empowering women, i can see your point.
I think some women have a false sense of security or over confidence of their chances in a fight - maybe because of shows like buffy, alias etc.
Most guys are physically stronger (and often bigger) than most women. In a perfect world this shouldn't matter, but sadly, it does. I see women taking some shocking risks sometimes.

In a fair fight a woman could not normally beat a man. Cause the man is almost twice the weight of a woman. And almost 3/4 stronger. Notice I did nice say twice. Women have more stamina then men and in many cases more brains. Cause nobody mentioned testicles, which would put a woman in such an advantage cause women have no balls to hurt or injure.

If I had to guess, in the United States maybe like 5% of black women like white guys. Across the globe, below 1%-3%.

They aren't making women any more delusional than the action movies are making men. Perhaps you think that you can get smashed in the face with a pipe, shot in the leg and then throw yourself thru a plate-glass window and make your escape? You can't. Action movies and television shows have been showing us that crap for decades. Are men throwing themselves thru windows any more now than they even were? I don't think so.

I dont believe there are a lot of women watching those shows thinking they can beat up men. Its fantasy. you dont become super woman by watching "Alias". I think the majority of women are a lot smarter than that.

well- I do know several (in the special forces and such) that could take on the average man.....but these are not your average women and have had extensive training...& what you seen on tv last night was nothing more than entertainment ...and I believe most of us wouldn't dream of even trying it to see.

When I was in my early 20s, I was working as a contract archaeologist or "shovel bum."
Our crew happened to be made entirely of women, including the field supervisor. Our boss wouldn't let us go on a dig without including a token male "for our protection."
We were buff, tanned, and armed with sharpened shovels. Our "protector" was a 19-year-old math major with arms the size of twigs. Gimme a break.

I hope that in this time and age that woman can in fact beat a man. There are an awful lot of self- defense classes out there so that woman can feel OK about going out alone after dark. My mom is a great example. She takes woman warriors class at her gym. It takes allot of things into consideration. The size dif etc. I do not think every woman can beat any/every man out there but I think that alot of woman can handle themselves!
