Pelé is better by a long shot.
Maradona is not even close to Pelé.

I would love to know how many people that vote for Pele have seen one full game that Pele played in. Maybe 10%? Probably less though. Maradona highlights dont even do Maradona justice. I saw many games he played in, and he controlled the entire game.... what do I mean by this? 3 or 4 defenders needed to be close to him if Diego and his team had the ball in the offensive half. If Diego managed to get the ball, he very often found a pass that you could not think of using anything but creative geniouse. He opened chances where nobody else could have. This is how he dominated a game.
As for Pele, I have not seen him play a full game, but my understanding is that he controled the game as a scorer. If you think a scorer has as much influence on a game as an Argentine 10, you have no idea about soccer. Why not put Ronaldo in the mix of best players ever?
Diego es el rey de soccer.
If you think Pele is better, please come up with something inteligent to say other than he was on a good team.

Maradona better than Pele? I doubt it. Pele better than Maradona? I doubt it too. I've been in Brazil where they love Pele and loathe Maradona. I've been in Argentina and it's exactly the opposite. Wow, hard to answer. Well they played different positions and of course Pele would score more goals being a forward, then again Maradona would give more assists. Personally, being Peruvian and after Peru being eliminated by Brazil in 1970, with Pele on the Brazilian squad, I'll say that Pele was better. Plus I'm a little biased, my girlfriend is Brazilian. Jejeje

Was Maradona better than Pele?

Is Air more important to life than Water? They played a generation apart. I was lucky to see both play. Pele was electrifying, Maradona was the best player in the world for a decade.

There is not anyone alive or on the horizon to replace either yet. Ronaldhino? He still has to prove he is the greatest in the same world stage that they did over MULTIPLE World Cups!!

Pele and Maradona, Maradona and Pele. You know, that's the toughest questions there's. I for one, saw Maradona play live. My dad saw Pele live. We argue all the time about this. There's no foregone conclusion. Even FIFA is split on it: Crowning both Pele and Maradona as the best ever. Sorry but that question is a matter of opinion. My opinion is that Maradona was better.

Whoever tells you Pele is better is because they either are Brazilians, they hate maradona or they just say what they hear on tv.
Let me tell you that Pele played with 10 great great great players next to him so it made it much easier for him and also he was a forward. i don't know how u can say a forward is the best player ever to live.

Maradona is by far greater. Napoli got Maradona when they were in div 2 and they only reason why they got him is because the team asked the people of napoli if they wanted maradona they would have to chip in and they did. Once i went to Napoli and people still remember that and love maradona for what he did with the team. Not only he brought the team from 2nd division to the 1st in the first year but also won the 1st div the first year they where in div 1.
He also played for Argentina next to no_names only caniggia. and won everything.

The downfall of Maradona was when he was playing in the Italy league and had to play Italy in the world cup and he scored a penalty kick and won cause of it and took the Italians out, from that moment on the Italians started saying he used coke and did drugs. THEY ALWAYS KNEW THAT, but as we all know Italians are known cause of they mafia they are.. NOW if Pele had to kick that penalty i Bet you he would of missed if on purpose.

Maradona is an example on the field, he LOVES soccer and always will. To bad nobody helped him out when he was young with all that money. He came from one of the poorest places of Argentina.

He is not a perfect human being but on the field i wish all players of all sports loved the sports as much as he did.

Maradona was an alien playing soccer, he is not a human.

Whoever says no knows nothing about soccer, as well as everyone who said yes. Maradonna and Pele are incomparable players because they did not play in the same position. It's like trying to say if Dida's better or Ronaldo :S They are both some of the best players the world of soccer has ever known.

Absolutely, in every manner. It's like comparing Gretsky to Richard in hockey. Times, numbers, speed, skill, mental focus and increased pace of the game dictate better players now. Pele though was better at 'heading'.

I saw Pele in his later years and I don't think he was better than Ronaldinho; so I will say that Maradona was better.
