I was going to download Limewire (the free kind) a few days ago, but I was reading this thing that said people from all over the world will be able to access my files or something like that. Can they really? I don't want people looking at my stuff, but I want Limewire.

I dont see how thats possible unless you download some random virus file you've downloaded, im running limewire, make sure you have a decent firewall like zone alarm and sets the settings to highest, if your running a router, enable the firewall through there too, if it makes you feel better, run a spyware program like adaware after finishing install of limewire to remove any potential spyware..
and most of all keep your anti virus up to date with definitions and run the app after this install, as far as accessing your computer remotely i dont see how it possible, maybe through some open ports but thats what the firewall prevents.

I have been using Limewire for 3 years now and have never had a problem, however, I keep my anti-virus up to date.

Be careful not to download files that have wierd squares and symbols like +-+-+++. Believe it or not the record companies try push viruses through so you will stop downloading and sharing music. A good anti-virus program will quanrantine and eliminate a possible virus in the event you get one.

In my opinion, its a safe program.

If you're going to download LimeWire, make sure you have a good Fire Wall such *** ZoneAlarm from Zone Labs. But, you may need an experienced person to set that up for you. Also, you will need a good anti virus program like Avast! and SpyBot: Search & Destroy.

You can get those programs free of charge at www.download.com

Good Luck!

you have risk with any downloading program (P2P), becuase you are getting files from other users that use the same program. So if they have a virus, or they put on in a file on perpose, you will recieve that virus when you download it and execute the file.

If you are going to download music, video, or even software from a P2P program, i recommend you scan the file or folder before you open it, if you dont you will have peoblems, like everyone else.

people will only be able to see the files you let them, only the files that are in the shared folder of limewire. not everything on your computer.

when you scan it, not all antivirus programs are 100%. but i recommend the following:

NOD32 Antivirus

Kapersky Antivirus

AVG Antivius

Good Luck!!

Have a good firewall & anitvirus. As for people looking at your files, you can always choose NOT to share (in limewire's settings). What I always do is tell limewire that anything shareable is just in some empty folder I created. You can choose what you want to share, so just share empty space. People are only limited to viewing that folder, so they get nothing.

My Dear Friend,

First of all, Limewire is Hard Spyware. It will demolish your entire computer system and throw all your personal information on share...I request you NOT TO USE LIMEWIRE AT ALL.

Better to use Bit-torrent software or more better buy a affordable CD/DVD.

Take care of your computer more...It will take care of you in coming days.

Expecting Success...Always.

Don't share your files. Its illegal and its copyright infringement. Most songs will give you viruses. Your computer will die if one gets buy your virus protection. It's also illegal in the u.s..So if you get your IP address traced by the government or some organization that smashes people thousands of dollars for stealing (using lime wire) music. It only happens to a few people but it cost a lot of money to pay the fine. There is a way around it..Change your IP address. And use your schools. then no one can trace yours. Remeber to save your other ip address because thats your faster ip address. Confusing I know. Need help? talk to a computer nerd at your school or someone you know. If you go to BHS you can talk to me. Good luck!

no i would not download limewire unless you install it on any extremely limited account on your computer. It does allow some access to files on your computer and will likely give you one or more viruses. not necessarly fromthe program itself but from what most people download.
