I downloaded the 64 bit version first but ran into major headaches. Eventually had to grab the regular 32bit and it's a whole lot smoother.

x64 will defenitely be the way of the future but for now there's very little support. might have trouble getting drivers for it especially since vista 64 doesn't take any unsigned drivers. any kind of support from hardware manufacturers is gonna be minimal for the time being.

you will also have some issues if you want to play games on it. not many games run well, if at all, on 64bit vista. well, maybe new releases will be different but for most of what's out there now they require a 64bit patch and there's all kinds of additional headaches

64-bit is always a better performing option and is mainly better for gamers. 64-bit vista requires that your hardware supports it and also, 64-bit for vista is not out yet. 64-bit however can be a nuisance when trying to get drivers for certain hardware and peripherals. I think vista 64 bit cleared up some of those issues but if you are using a stock dell computer or whatnot I would not recommend using 64 bit vista at all. This is really only good for gamers. In your case you cannot upgrade to 64 bit because you are currently running 32 bit. You would need to erase your OS and start from scratch with a full version. For you however I would just recommend getting 2 gb of ram and upgrading to vista home 32bit.

How many of these people actually looked at your computer before spouting random stuff. First off, as the last guy mentioned, you can't run Vista on that as currently configured, you need a bare minimum of 512MB of RAM, but in reality you need 1GB to run effectively. As for 32 bit or 64 bit, it would not be matter of preference, that is not a 64 bit capable processor, you would HAVE to run the 32 bit version.

Your PC would not support vista, unless you upgrade it, but I wouldn't recommend a Celeron for Vista, at least a P4. Also your RAM is 256mb. You will at least need 1GB of RAM for Vista, and also a DVD Drive, so you can install it, unless you go for VIsta Home Basic (because vista basic uses a cd), but if you do, it would be a waste of money, might as well go for XP Home. Good luck.

well i think it all comes down to your monitor and ive looked at its stats and i think that you should go with the 64 bit version although i would consult a specialist before purchasing.

32-bit is all you need. 64 bit need 64 bit programs and drivers (not just the OS), which isn't that common.
