melody. melody is everything. i care not for lyrics. in most of the songs i listen to, the lyrics are unintelligible anyway. a song with a good melody but bad lyrics can still pass for a good song, while a song with good lyrics but a bad melody is just a crappy song.

For me, sometimes it all depends on my mood at the time. Other times, it may just be for anything. For R&B, it's normally the lyrics and for anything other than that, like rap, then it's the beat.
I'm a musical person in the sense that i choose lyrics over anything else. If the lyrics are saying something powerful, meaningful, and thought-provoking, then more than likely i'm in. In rap, i can get with an artist that says something thought-provoking (2Pac) or whose wordplay is so fantastic (Eminem) that you can't help but listen! With R&B, the lyrics have to say just the right thing. You can always tell when R&B is real as opposed to an artist singing some corny stuff about lovemaking and sounding real foolish when doing it.

Both. The melody hits me first but if I listen to songs and see that they have great lyrics I'll eventually grow to like them as well.

A bit of both. For example, I don't like Pink Floyd, but I like Wish You Were Here by them, purely for the lyrics. Whereas, Justin Timberlake - Sexyback, I don't like the lyrics, but I like the melody. It just depends. Most songs I listen to, I like both the melody and lyrics.

it depends. usually it's for the melody and the voice. I mean, there are songs whose lyrics I looooooove, but I'll just write them down on basically everything. If I listen to a song over and over, it's most probably because I love the voice, melody &/or rhythm...

Depends what mood I'm in. Sometimes I can't stand words because they interfere with my own creative thoughts. And, sometimes I just get tired of being song at, yelled at or rapped all of which aren't saying anything at the same time. Sometimes, I just wish all those people who thought they had something to say would shut up and just let the muscians do their thing. That can be the song ever and can say alot more than any wordy singer could sing.
