Some people react violently to it, like monosodium glutamate, but in asia, a lot of restaurants use it to enhance flavor for business reasons. Stuff like that is banned in most us restaurants because the side effects are not worth it.

AJINOMOTO
Ajinomoto is a Japanese brand name for MSG, monosodium glutamate, a flavor enhancer. Ac'cent is the primary U.S. brand name, and the Chinese version is called ve-tsin.
MSG has very little flavor of its own, but it 'improves' or enhances the flavor of other foods it is used with.
Some individuals seem to be sensitive to MSG, and exhibit what is known as 'Chinese Restaurant Syndrome' (because of its use in Asian cooking). The symptoms include headaches, chest pains, facial pressure, burning sensations, and sweating. The FDA continues to list it as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe), but all foods containing MSG must state so on the label.
Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (味の素株式会社, Aijinomoto Kabushiki-gaisha?) (TYO: 2802 ) is a Japanese company that produces food seasonings, cooking oils, foods and pharmaceuticals. The literal translation of Aji no Moto is "Essence of Taste", used as a trademark for the company's monosodium glutamate (MSG). Ajinomoto currently produces around 33% of the world's MSG.
Ajinomoto is active in 23 countries and regions worldwide, employing around 24,861 people as of 2004. Yearly revenue stands at US$9.84 billion.
Ajinomoto's signature product, monosodium glutamate (MSG) seasoning, was first marketed in Japan in 1909, having been discovered and patented by Kikunae Ikeda. The company rapidly expanded to other countries, with Ajinomoto U.S.A., Inc. being established in 1956. Since then, Ajinomoto has become a conglomerate spreading to other areas, though mostly in the food industry.
In early 2001, Ajinomoto was involved in a scandal in majority-Muslim Indonesia when it emerged that a pork-based enzyme had been used in its production of MSG. This gave ironic significance to the company's advertising slogan in some parts of the world: "What is Ajinomoto made of?" Similarly, in 1917 an urban legend had spread that Ajinomoto was made from snake. This turned out not to be true.
Ajinomoto is a genericized name for MSG in India.

Ajinomoto is the name of a company which discovered Mono-sodium glutamte.
So Ajinomoto and MSG are same products.
* A 1995 FDA-commissioned report acknowledged that "An unknown percentage of the population may react to MSG and develop MSG symptom complex, a condition characterized by one or more of the following symptoms:
o burning sensation in the back of the neck, forearms and chest
o numbness in the back of the neck, radiating to the arms and back
o tingling, warmth and weakness in the face, temples, upper back, neck and arms
o facial pressure or tightness
o chest pain
o headache
o nausea
o rapid heartbeat
o bronchospasm (difficulty breathing) in MSG-intolerant people with asthma
o drowsiness
o weakness."[4]
Issues surrounding these health implications of MSG consumption are the subject of much debate. A considerable body of anecdotal evidence exists suggesting negative health effects, but this has not yet been supported by recognised research
