I had a hot plate of food dumped in my lap and on my wife. There were no serious burns but the embarrisment was huge. It was at a Chili's. I still had to pay for my meal, but they offered to pay for my clothes. If they offered this, should they have offered more or can I get more.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are grounds for a lawsuit. In order to file a lawsuit, there must be damages. Chili's offered to pay for your clothes, so unless some of the clothes you were wearing had sentimental value, you can't really get value for that. Neither of you suffered burns. I don't think the embarassment you suffered is serious enough to earn any compensation. And if you ate your food regardless, you can't really sue for goods that weren't delivered. I would say just cut your losses, don't go to that Chili's anymore and move on.

Get over it - daumn ever hear of an accident? If this is the most "embarassing" thing that ever happened to you in your life then count yourself lucky and move on.

Would have been nice if they'd have offered to pay for your meal, but they did offer to pay for your clothes and you and your wife were not permanently injured. MOVE ON!

What damages would you claim? You stayed and ate the food, they offered to pay for the clothing, you were not hurt.

No, you do not have enough to warrant a suit.

I would have argued with the manager--and gotten my meal free--I also would have left after the incident and sent them the cleaning (or replacement) bill for the clothing. In my experience without actual physical harm done to your body you really can't sue.
