Sometimes people confuse white with off white... try this..

If the white smoke is STEAM (ie it dissipates quickly or smells like antifreeze) then see the answer above.

If the white smoke has a blue tint to it, it is oil. Check the compression in each cylinder and look for one that is different from the others. If that is the case you have may have bad rings or need a valve job or, worst case, your cylinder is scored from something.

If it is blowing out white smoke it is probably not worth anything. Try driving it over a cliff and getting a new one.

are you sure its white smoke or steam?if its white smoke then its probably got a leaking head gasket,where its burning anti-freeze.

it's burning coolant somehow through the engine. blown head gasket, cracked head or block, possibly even blown intake manifold gaskets. Either way, the engine is ingesting coolant somwhere.

If this is a diesel then it might be a bad injector, if it is not then it could be what the others suggested.
