No matter where you live - it costs more to get a divorce than it does to get married.

You may be eligible for Legal Aid. but they generally don't go to court for divorces, they just offer advice. My daughter and her ex got divorced the right way. They agreed to all terms, got a lawyer together and split the cost. They got a legal divorce and custody arrangements (no equity to Davide) for $1,000. total cost. But remember they had the details worked out before the lawyer so all he had to do was write p the correct forms, go before the judge to validate it and file the divorce degree in the Records dpt. of the county they lived in. Probably the easiest and fastest way that lawyer made a thousand bucks.

While it won't be free, if the two of you come up with your own paperwork with everything detailed out, you can get one but you will have to pay for the filing fees and the cost to have it finalized. In NH you can get one for under $500.
