What is the right way to place silverware in the dishwasher, up or down?

Is there a right or wrong way? I guess it just depends on what you want. Me...I like to put everything facing up. I want what people put in their mouth to get the most attention. But then some people don't like it that way because you have to touch the silverware top before you put it in the drawer. Just depends on you.

My handbook that got here with the dishwasher stated to replace them. I assemble it is because then the spoons and forks gained't nest and not in any respect get wiped clean. My dishwasher has the silverware basket on the door and that i do not recognize if that makes any distinction, although. Hubby truthfully takes it heavily because I see him flipping silverware if I actual have too many spoons or forks in a particular slot all going a similar route.

I say up, so that the water hits the silverware's parts that go in your mouth. Apparently, though, newer dishwashers will clean them either way.
I guess it's kinda like the "how should toilet paper be put in, rolled over or rolled under" question.

normal silverware like spoons, folks and butterknives should be up. Sharp knives should be down. This way your silverware gets cleaned. I fuss with my daughter all the time because she rarely rinses and puts them down, meaning the gunk on them is going to be harder to get off sinces its all crammed in there together. Thats my theory anyways.

I put the handles up and the business end down, thinking that the spray is stronger that way - and also you don't reach down and get poked by a knife when you are reaching for something next to the silverware.
I take care to not nest pieces by loading a mixture in each cell.

cutlery should be placed in the baskets in a combination of up and down such that like pieces do not overlap. Eg if two spoons are together cup to cup where they touch will not get washed properly , same goes for knives.

I place everything up except sharp knives. They get more water around them that way and are not all stuck together in the bottom of the container.

Up I think. Just be careful and don't stab yourself with the knives or forks. Also don't put spoons together, forks together . . alternate so they don't 'spoon' together.

For me, it's a safety issue. I always put them down so I don't stab myself when removing them.
