most people are going to say baker; he had the longest run of the first five (havent seen the show since davison); most people like the doctor they started watching with the best. i like pertwee- he did many of his own stunts and was the best dressed.

Hmm...good question. I came into it at the end of Tom Baker's time, for the start of Peter Davison's years. Since then I've seen everything available, and they all have their merits.
Baker of course was Doctor Who for longer than anyone else, and added more to the role as he went along, often developing the character way beyond the confines of the writing.
Personally, for me, the 9th Doctor though, played by Christopher Ecclestone, was a particular triumph, because the character had suffered extreme consequences, and was more realistically mentally scarred than any other Doctor. To bring that across in a show that was back from the dead and could have folded on the knife-edge of a plot ingredient like that, and to make it, in fact, a triumph, was a bigger challenge than any other Doctor has had to face, and it was a tribute to Ecclestone's skills that he could pull it off.

Hmmm, of the older Doctors, I do like Tom Baker. He is a trip. But, honestly, I like the newest guy the best... the one with dark hair that just had to say goodbye to Rose. sad episode *sniff sniff*

Christopher Eccleston
I really liked him, and he was really good in Shallow grave and 28 Days later, a great movie if you haven't seen it
but I have only started watching the series with my husband, so I don't think my vote counts much

i might want to assert Tom Baker (4th well being care provider) is the most prevalent as he portrayed the well being care provider for the longest (7 - 8 years, i imagine) yet human beings particularly love David Tennant's 10th well being care provider ( i recognize I do)
