The city of Atlantic City, New Jersey is one of the oldest and most famous beach resort cities in the United States - and is in the Top 10 worldwide.
It gets its name from the fact that it is on the ATLANTIC coast of the United States - and when you walk out onto the beach and into the water you are standing IN the Atlantic Ocean. The Pacific Ocean is over three thousand miles to the west - on the opposite side of the continent.
Try the Mapquest link I have provided and zoom in and out all you like. Then look at the tourist website and see whay it's so famous, then see it's history from the city government website.
I'm curious: did you try looking at a map - either before or after you made the bet?

Atlantic City is in New Jersey, as you stated.
New Jersey actually touches the Atlantic Ocean.
All of New Jersey is much, much closer to the Atlantic Ocean than to the Pacific Ocean.
The Atlantic Ocean IS closer to Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Depends are you referring to Atlantic City, NJ or Atlantic City, WY? Depending on which Atlantic City you meant then the answer varies. If you meant the one in Jersey then the Atlantic Ocean is closer. If you meant the one in WY then the Pacific Ocean is closer. So technically both of you could be right if you were referring to different cities. Usually though most people think of the one in Jersey in which case it's the Atlantic Ocean.

If you mean the Atlantic City in New Jersey, then it is clearly the Atlantic Ocean. New Jersey is on the east coast, so is the Atlantic Ocean. The name of the city alone should be a hint...
I hope you were betting on Atlantic.

Atlantic City, Oregon is .00002 feet from the Pacific Ocean, while Atlantic City, New Jersey is .00003438795 feet from the Atlantic Ocean. So...I would have to say that Atlantic City, Oregon is closer by a hair.
