Someone is not happy in marriage - for all the possible reasons. In this build-up, tear-down, throw-awy, disposable-society we live in, it will happen that you drive up to McDs order a Big Mac and a divorce - to go. When ever there is BIG money to be made off in something gone wrong, it creates a feeding frenzy.

I for one am fed up too!
Seems like you have a very clear definition of our throw-away society. And it seems like our legal system is getting fat off divorce, and others that are associated with it.

If you go back IN history and compare the divorce rate of then and now, it is very obvious of the difference.

Children were raised to honor there parents. They were disciplined and helped with the work at home. It is pitiful what teachers and many good students have to put up with.
Today, parents hardly talk to their children. The kids are busy watching TV, playing video games, talking on their cell phones, playing on the computer. And the parents think this is great because there is nothing to bother them.

Let's talk about the married couple. It all boils down to the all mighty dollar, greed, and greener grass. Control. Being equal to everyone else. Having the newest toys, or the current style of dress. Each wants the latest trendy vehicle. Intimacy is set on a schedule. Do I need to go on? What happened to people believing in God? Going and taking their children to church. Having daily family prayer? Reading the Bible or what ever you would use for guidance?

What made the change? There are so many reasons of change in life style and attitude. In my opinion it was the land of "milk and honey." Before it was just scraping by to put food on the table and a roof overhead. Struggling made us depend on each other. That increased our "love at home." Both with parents and children.

You know I could go on, but what's the use? No one wants to give up their lifestyle to become and have a happy home. Again history is repeating itself.

What about the couples that just live together and not marry? Living a life of adultry or fornication is a very tough life to live. Today it is accepted. I wonder what is next? Marriage to your favorite pet? Sick!

I would like to tell you that I have been married to the same girl for 38 years. AND our children are following closely in our footsteps in raising their families.

You are only looking at the effect of divorce, not the cause. You need to look deeper than that. You have to look back through time and what has changed in our society, besides what you mentioned. How have we changed as a people? Why do you think that people get married for different reasons than they used to 30-50 years ago? Do you think they would have gotten divorced then were it more acceptable and the woman wasn't shunned for either being a spinster or a divorce...

One very important thing is missing from your dissertation:

Fact is, people come to lawyers and ASK to get divorced. Lawyers then have to go to a judge and ASK for the divorce. The lawyers sell a service just like the grocery store sells food. If they weren't needed, there would be no lawyers.

All these people are just working with the material the couple gives them. If one or both has a poor attitude, and vegence in their hearts, they have the golden goose. It has always been possible for a couple to get a divorce and do it themselves. If you refuse to be reasonable; you get what you deserve.

Your cynical view is based, sadly on fact.

I decided a few years ago that I would never give anyone legal power over my life by getting legally married.

By the way, a marriage through the state is a relatively new concept.

Yet somehow, people managed to live, reproduce and live their lives prior to that.

It is disgusting. Because a relationship does not work out, which is in itself enough to bear or more for many people, the predators and parasites run in and claim their share of the process. Three of my "friends" went through nasty divorces. Two of the husbands were totally broke and in debt for ten years afterwards. I hate what lawyers do.
