This is probably the best question I've seen here. This question hits everyone no matter what you listen to. If you don't listen to what your parents listened to, then you made a decision long ago that you didn't prefer that kind of music. Any way you want to look at this you were influenced by your parents musically. I generally listen to anythingI can get my hands on. But growing up it was classic country music. Can't say as I listen to it everyday because I also listen to Rap, R&B, Metal, Jazz, Blues most of which wasn't a big influence from my parents but in a way it was with music from the 50's through the 70's playing in our house. Each decade that progresses something is taken from the past. I could go on but this is only suppose to be short answer form I believe.

when i was growing up my parents didn't allow any other music in their house except classic country. my mother told me i'd know i was really grown up if i ever decided to only listen to that and nothing else. my musical tastes are very diverse. there's hardly any music i don't enjoy. my much younger sister still lives at home at nearly 30 years old and my mother now only listens to the music my sister likes, which turns out to be top 40 and bubble gum pop. i'm wondering who really influenced who.

My mom is a political...not anarchist, just sort of like a rebel and I grew up believing the same things. When I heard the bands I listen to today I just felt I could relate.

May parents listened to a wide range of music from classical to soft rock, to funk, to hard rock. I have always, therefore, had an appreciation for differnt types of music. It's funny because I find myself buying a lot of the same music that they owned. Guess it gives me the comforting feeling of my childhood.

Prob the best question I've seen in the music category to date. I find myself searching for/listening to tracks that my mom used to listen to when I was barely walking. PROFOUND impact on my taste in music.

I love the music they listened to in their time. The lyrics were clear to understand and it seemed more wholesome than the music today...

My parents were both musicians (Dad played piano, Mom played classical guitar). I grew up on everything. My Dad just to play us to sleep at night. He'd play Brahms, Chopin, you name it. Its a wonderful memory. I also grew up listening to opera and I still love it. They opened my mind to a lot of different styles.
If its good, I'll listen to it!

my mom always called me a white girl trapped in a black girl's body cuz i always used to listen to backstreet boys and nsync, and not run dmc and snoop dogg. and as i got older, and my knowldege of music progressed, i found all kinds of different music. my favorite now is alternative, but i can still handle a little hip hop now and then. not to classify any music as "white" or "black" but, u know what i mean. but i probably listen to less "black" music and that's probably cuz of my sweet ol' mama.
