It never fails... The wiper blades that come with the car (new) work great. But as soon as I have to replace them, the replacement blades always jump and skip around and never have the smooth squeege action of the originals! I have tried several different brands of replacements including the ones sold by the dealers and it is always the same!

What am I doing wrong?

try cleaning the windshield with a cleaning product like Bar Keeper's Friend. It's a powder used to clean kitchens and bathrooms. Wet the windshield down with purified water and sprinkle some BKF on the glass. Use a clean, wet wash cloth and a circular motion to clean the windshield. I only do half the windshield at a time. I also use the wash cloth on the wiper blades after I have finished with the windshield. Thoroughly rinse the windshield with filtered water. I also use Rain X after I have cleaned the windshield. This is what I used to do when I worked as a service technician at the dealership. I think you'll find this works very well.

You need to apply rain-x or equivalent. Your windshield gets roughed up by small particles as you travel around. this effects the cleaning abilities of any blade. Rain-x or equivalent will smooth the glass so the blade travels more perfectly over the glass surface. When you use rain-x, you don't even need to turn on your wipers, so there's that.

I had the same problem.

Here in Florida we used to have a drive-thru place called "The Wiper Hut". You could pull up in the same fashion as you would through a McDonald's window and they would do it for you. I don't know why they're no longer around, it was a GREAT service!

Recently I waxed the windshield of my car (forget Rain-X)... it did WONDERS!

Don't apply rain-x. SOmeone told me to do that and it worked for the first couple of days but, after that it was worse. I use high performace bosch icon blades. There a little more expensive BUt they work. Another thing is waxing your windshield well.
