I'm not homosexual, but I understand how it is not a choice. They were born attracted to the same sex... just as heterosexuals were born attracted to the opposite sex.
...So why are come people still so closed-minded? It's not an opinion anymore. It's not the 1500's. It's been proven.

TO "Laura B", Yes, it has been proven. Animals are homosexual. They can't think consciously. They can't make decisions like humans can. Explain that.

Why would someone "choose" to make life harder for themselves? Think about it. I am trying to find the online archives of the many, many articles I read in science magazine.

Just because homosexuality is of biological origin does not necessarily mean that it is genetically specified.

And boys who have older brothers are more likely gay. They think it's because of the hormones in the womb.

"Your craft"? I'm not gay. I just know the facts, and don't believe something based on what The Bible says, even though it was written before they knew the truth about these sort of things.

If you are born attracted to the same sex and would be disgusted thinking about being with the OTHER sex, then why do you think anyone would want to do it if they weren't biologically different than you somehow?

NOTE: I AM NOT SIMPLY TALKING ABOUT SEX. JUST AS HETEROSEXUAL REALATIONSHIPS AREN'T ALL ABOUT SEX, NEITHER ARE HOMOSEXUAL ONES.

LeVay study - differences in brain structure between homosexuals and heterosexuals
Oregon sheep studies - differences in brain structures
LOTS of twin studies (just google it) - high correlation between identical twins, but not 100%. the correlation is also there between fraternal siblings, but it is much lower. this means it is almost certainly genetically influenced, but it is not 100% genetic, or else there is a level of genetic permeance at work here.
independent studies on reparative therapy - they almost never work, and a third of the patients end up killing themselves in dispair because they can't change.
sibling studies - you are much more likely to be gay (if male) if you have older brothers
prenatal hormone sheep studies - inject testosterone into the uterus of a pregnant sheep at the correct stage and the daughter is likely to be a lesbian.
no correlation found between postnatal environmental factors and sexual orientation.
the list goes on and on, but the evidence is ignored because a) most people don't make a habit of reading Psychology 101 textbooks and b) NEVER underestimate the power of human denial.

I was some of those people and I would never have addressed this question had it not been for your question and since discussing it with friends I come to realyize that If I can be born attracted to the opposite sex then it works both ways, when you grow up and are taught that somethings are bad and that there has to be an alternitive answer for things misunderstood then that belief grows and grows and becomes a part of us until a good question comes along that challenges our close-mindedness Than you

They are closed minded because they refuse to listen to anything that does not conform to their narrow views, no matter how many studies, or how many gay people say otherwise.
It is a relief to know there are SOME intelligent heterosexuals out there!!!
What I want to know is WHY so many people refuse to listen to the LGBT community? WHY can't they believe what WE say? The LGBT community are the ones who are the experts on the LGBT community. HOW can someone outside our group think that they understand us better than we do?

I dont know that its been PROVEN either way... (I havent seen a genetic scientist isolate a Gay gene yet.. nor have i seen anyone prove there isnt a Gay gene)
My point here is does it really make a difference if its choice or genetic? Umm I dont think so.. who cares? (not me) in fact the more dangerouse position might be that it is Genetic... which means someone out there will try and find a "CURE" for the genetic defect... making it a medical issue (think about it thats a dangerous road to take)
Life is full of choices.. Homosexuality may just be one of them eh?.. Its Odd i would think straight guys would like gay men at least more than they do.. face it.. that would leave more girls for them... (Silly Straight guys SHEESH)

i've never heard of their being proof that it's genetic (you need to site your source.) , i believe it is a choice, from a sociological point of view i believe that humans are socialized into most of of their behaviour even though they might not realize that this socialization has taken place.
And so what if it was or is a CHOICE? people have the right to choose to be whatever they want to aslong as their choice does not infringe on others or forces other to have a certain opinion. why do gay people feel such a great need to prove that they where born that way? If gays believe they have a right to be gay and there is nothing wrong with their lifestyle why are they always trying to prove something???? it's their life do what ever makes u happy!

By condemning the actions altogether, society has left those born with the inclination bereft of any instructions as to what choices they should make in acting on those impulses, as they inevitably must.
Therefor many think, in their opposition to strictures, that any choice is proper as long as society has designated it improper.
Thus there has been an appalling rise in the masochistic search for any and all objects that beckon for attention - which some have designated the Harvey Fierstein syndrome.
So what is mistakenly condemned as a matter of choice is in actuality simply a matter of not knowing the right from the wrong choice.
Oh come on, you thumbs downers, do you really think anyone would be drawn to the all too many Harvey clones except as symbols of defiance of any "straight" standards of presentability?

Please show me your reference where it's shown to be 'proven'. O would like to see that. Can we now perform pre-nadil tests to determine if a child will be born gay? Can we test people to see whom are really gay and who are the posers? No, we can't because there is no known "gay gene". It just doesn't exist sweetie.
Anyways does it make a difference? If people were born fat, can they not control their behavior and diet? Who would smoke if it weren't genetic. Still smokers are the most vile people on the planet, laws are being written to prevent people from smoking in their own bedroom! Who cares what someone does in their bedroom? And yet, people do quit.
No, being gay is a choice people make. Claiming that that is how you were born is only an excuse.
Interesting to see you compare homosexuals to animals. You believe they are the same? Also animals kill their young, is this acceptable behavior for humans? If animals do it, then it must be ok for people, right? Or are you just referring to gays?
>> And boys who have older brothers are more likely gay. They think it's because of the hormones in the womb.<<
Right, and if they're given a shot of what they're missing, they will start to go straight. A pill to cure gayness, right?

People refuse to accept the truth. They have been brainwashed for so many years, that even when a scientist tells them that it is genetic, they will still deny it.

Nothing has been proven actually. Its currently being debated whether or not ANYONE is BORN ANYthing. As infants, we are not sexually attracted to anyone. We know nothing about our sexuality or our preferences and desires. It isn't until later on in life, after experimenting & experiencing that we figure out what makes us comfortable, and what makes us happy. I experienced relationships with men and realized that the attraction just isnt there. I think people who believe they were born one way and have to conform to that are ridiculously close-minded & are simply swallowing what society is shoving down there throats.
